SKU / BBOAHDR

  • Three hive entrance options at the turn of a dial: Open Position with a standard 60mm entrance is sufficient all year, Wasp Stop creates an 8mm reduced entrance, or Closed Position closes off the entrance of the hive for moving.
  • Hive Locators - The locators assist the returning queen to identify her hive and reduce bee drift (assists in the prevention of cross-hive disease and infection).
  • Detachable pest tray (Available separately) to Monitor Varroa, or use as a SHB Trap
  • Designed tough for Steel strapping - Guide groove to assist location of steel strapping plus strengthened mid section to handle high loads.
  • Brood Box location lugs - Secure hives from livestock interference and prevent hives from being pushed off the bottom board.
  • Semi Ventilated base (6% Ventilation) - Assists removal of mites while also removing moisture and hive debris. Up to 90% less ventilation than a standard mesh bottom board.
  • Corner Pallet anchors - Fasten bottom board to pallets to create a strong integrated hive base. Remove and sterilise if an AFB issue occurs.
  • Brood box leverage areas - Specifically designed to enable ease of opening the hive with your standard hive tool, even when box’s are firmly propolised to the base.
  • Vented bottom boards can reduce varroa loading - use as part of a varroa management system.

Description

  • Three hive entrance options at the turn of a dial
    • Open Position - Standard 60mm Entrance is sufficient all year. NOTE: if your preference is to have a wide opening the hive can be lifted over the front hive stop lugs and moved forwards providing an entrance across the width of the hive.
    • Wasp Stop - Turn the dial Clockwise to the indexed wasp stop position and create a 8mm reduced entrance.
    • Closed Position - Turn the dial Clockwise to close off the entrance of the hive for moving.
  • Hive Locators - The locators assist the returning queen to identify her hive and reduce bee drift (assists in the prevention of cross-hive disease and infection).
  • Detachable pest tray (Available separately)
    • Monitor Varroa - Quickly check for Varroa levels by using the quick reference grid on the base of the white varroa trays.
    • SHB Trap - Use a black pest tray to create a darkened trap cavity for the SHB to be trapped. Australia's most successful trap to date!
  • Vented bottom boards can reduce varroa loading and be utilised as part of a varroa management system.

    • The mechanism does not actively treat mites but takes advantage of natural mite fall.
    • It is estimated that 20% of phoretic mites fall off the bee in their first 72 hours.
    • With vented bottom boards, mites that fall off the bees fall out of the hive, as opposed to solid floors where the mites can climb back up from the floor and reattach themselves to the bee.
    • This reduction may seem small, but it will decrease the varroa stress load on the hive.
    • This may be particularly beneficial when mite treatments cannot be applied E.g. long summer honey flows.
    • Modeling has shown that through the period between two synthetic treatments mite drop through vented bottom boards can lead to a reduction of up to a third in phoretic mites.
    • Reduced mite loadings lead to healthier hives, colonies under less mite stress, reduced PMS and reduced hive losses.

Keep in mind that this is no substitute for high efficacy synthetic or organic treatments. Mite levels should be monitored and treated accordingly.

NOTE: When using pollen patties, place patties carefully on the top bars of the hive, ensuring no pieces fall through to the bottom board. As with any food product, these pieces may attract rodents which could result in damage to the hive.
